Tree Walk
The Morton Library has a diverse collection of trees planted on the library property. The University of Illinois Extension Master Gardeners have put together a self-guided tree walk identifying 26 trees that provide a sampling of species one might find in Illinois. Both the common and scientific names of each tree are listed, along with identifying characteristics, so that patrons may walk the property and familiarize themselves with each tree. Each description provides identifying characteristics that are important in determining tree species.
Additional information can be found about each tree on the Illinois River Horticultural blog.
The tree walk begins to the far right of the front entrance doors. A brochure is available inside the library or can be accessed here.
